Rising Life Expectancy:
The worst time for which we have data, life expectancy in Bangladesh reached as low as 21.5 in 1990. In 2011, just a little over a century later, people are expected to reach 70 years of age. Another interesting case is Japan: in 1900, life expectancy was 38.6, which was a fairly average age across the globe. In 2011, Japanese life expectancy reached 83 years – the highest in the world.
Can we on & off Aging?
Nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD+) is an essential chemical compound present in all human cells.
NAD+ activates key anti-aging enzymes called sirtuins. Sirtuins, specifically SIRT1 and SIRT3, are intimately related to longevity through their control of gene expression and require NAD+ for their activity.
By activating these sirtuins, we’re able to gain control over one of our body’s anti-aging “switches.” SIRT enzymes “turn off” certain genes that promote aging, such as those involved in inflammation, in fat synthesis and storage, and in blood sugar management.
How far are we to achieve anti aging?
There were already few products available in the market to rejuvenate and reduce aging of skin. Anti aging was tested in few organisms including mice, achieved promising results. Advanced researches are going on. Definitely, there will be a day of anti aging drugs, suppression of aging genes and reversal of aging.
But the real question here is about the legal sanctions of anti aging and it is again a contentious one!
